Bentley Continental GT meets pop art with artist Romero Britto

Britto Bentley Continental GT pop art

This is probably one of the most unusual Bentleys ever seen: a large, happy flower, little stars, squiggles and signs dance on the elegant hood and colourful, comic-like figures adorn the doors. The Continental GT – a static prototype built in 2003 – has become a truly unique work of art created by the world-renowned Brazilian artist Romero Britto. Bentley Motors donated the Coupe on the occasion of Britto´s Berlin exhibition ‘Come to my World’ in the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden.

Designed to put a smile on people's faces, the oddly painted Bentley features a bizarre mix of cartoonish flowers, flying hearts, and yellow stars. These unique designs are further emphasized by the GT's dark blue exterior which boasts white squiggles.

According to Britto, "It (the Bentley Continental GT) is the most beautiful and elegant car in the world. The lines of the new design are perfect to paint as a clean canvas. What a way to start a fascinating and colorful journey."

In keeping with Britto’s wider ideals, at the conclusion of the show, the ‘Britto-Bentley’ will be put up for auction in aid of the Nathalie Todenhöfer Foundation for multiple sclerosis as well as Best Buddies, an organization dedicated to improving the integration of the mentally disabled within society.

2010 Saab 9-5 Sedan AND Wagon First photos

Do these images actually show official manufacturer renderings of the 2010 Saab 9-5 sedan and 9-5 wagon? Two different blogs seem to think so.

Both Autoblog.nl and Saabunited.com believe that the source of these images is Saab itself. We're not so sure. The images are far from perfect (is that a scratch on the front bumper of the 9-5 sedan?), showing two drawings that need some finishing touches. Most recently, the wagon was seen under a tight-fitting cloth cover teasing us with an idea of what the vehicle will look like.

However, what the artist seems to have been accurate on is the overall shape of the front bumper, including headlight placement, air intakes, grille shape, and fog lght location. Also, the wheels appear to be fairly close in design to what Saab has included on their teaser car.

Comparing these pictures with the rendering, we think we can spot a few differences. The rendering does not appear to have a steep enough angle just over the rear headlights. Rigidity looks to be key in the back end of the covered up car, as opposed to the smoothness seen in the drawing. Also, the rendering shows a roofline that plunges down at the back quite a bit more than the concealed 9-5 wagon, which shows a flatter roof.

The car should be available with a mix of four and six cylinder engines (petrol/BioPower) and a four cylinder diesel. The six cylinder diesel that was planned for the car was cancelled by GM.

BMW M Concept envisaged Audi R8 Rival

2009 bmw m concept

Tired of waiting for BMW to come up with an Audi R8 rival, designer Idreas Noah created this independent design proposal for a sleek, stylish and aggressive Beemer.

Inspiration for the design came from flowing water and ripples, and the sides are inspired by what’s called in surfing terms “a barrel or tube.” The concept runs on a tweaked 5-l V10 from the M6, that would generate more than 400kW power. Dimensions for the M Concept are nearly the same as its targeted rival, the Audi R8.

Noah writes that the design for such a model has to be "Aggressive, Sleek, Agile and totally different from anything on the road today." Consistency with BMW's design paradigm is maintained by the "the trademark grille and hockey stick pillar."

Under the hood Noah envisions an amped-up version of the 5.0 liter V10 currently found in the M6.
